Tennis New Zealand (TNZ) has introduced a new Coach Registration & Certification Policy as from July 1, 2009.
The goal of this policy is to introduce professional coaching standards and raise levels of service delivered at all National and Regional Performance Centers, affiliated clubs and tennis centers in New Zealand. One of the main benefits of such will ensure all children, and adults, who receive tennis coaching, do so in an environment where there is a professional duty of care. This is in terms of both safety and the quality of the coaching provided.
There are now 2 categories of coaches in New Zealand.
1. A TNZ Registered Coach is a coach who:
- Has passed a TNZ/Tennis Coaches New Zealand (TCNZ) Recognised Coaching Course*
- Holds a current First-Aid Certificate
- Has signed a Tennis Coaches Code of Ethics
- Has passed a New Zealand Police Check (or Tennis Australia (TA) – Prohibited Persons Check)
- Has paid the anuual Registration fee
* TNZ/TCNZ Recognised Courses: TCNZ - Club, Competition or High Performance Coach; TNZ - Assistant Junior Coach; TA/TNZ - Junior Development, Club Professional, High Performance Coach; or a TCNZ Internationally recognized qualification.
2. A TNZ Certified Coach is a Registered Coach as outlined above, and has completed TNZ/TCNZ Professional Development Updating Activities in the past 2 years.
